Butanol that is made from fossil fuels (petrobutanol ) or from certain plants or algae (biobutanol ), and which is used as an alternative to gasoline.Butanol is the availability of butanol as biofuel. Researches on butanol show that the use of butanol instead of ethanol as biofuel is much more useful. Butanol has a high calorific value  and low heat of vaporization and is less corrosive compared with ethanol.  It is used as a solvent and chemical intermediates ,solvent for paints, lacquers & varnishes, natural & synthetic resins,   gums, vegetable oils, dyes & alkaloids. It is also used as an intermediate in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals & employed in industries producing artificial leather, textiles, safety glass, rubber cement, shellac, raincoats, photographic films & perfumes.
