Floats on water.decylbenzene is a natural product found in Aloe vera.It is used as resin dispersant, felt detergent and deinking agent in the papermaking industry, an osmotic degreaser in the leather industry.  an anti-blocking agent in the fertilizer industry, in the cement industry as a gassing agent,or used separately or in conjunction with components. t is also used to make linear alkylbenzenesulfonate surfactants, dodecylnitrobenzene, dodecylaniline, and dodecylbenzyl chloride, as vehicle and solvent for polynuclear aromatics in carcinogenesis studies,  as solvent for organophosphorus insecticides, to make arylalkyl sulfonates in soap and detergent industry, Not produced in commercial quantity as pure substance, rather as mixtures of long-chain linear alkylbenzenes with alkyl group containing from 10 to 16 carbon atoms,  The detergent surfactant LAS uses more than 98% of all linear alkylbenzenes.
